Operations Manager will oversee freight forwarding and household goods field operations in Nairobi and Juba, including the following activities: moving/packing team work, customs clearance, local/regional trucking, airfreight operations, sea freight operations, warehouse operations in Nairobi and Juba, and subcontractor management.
Operations Manager will also oversee the Nairobi-based rates and routings team for the timely, accurate, and competitive preparation of quotes to clients and development of new routes and vendors, particularly for South Sudan and Somalia.
There will also be an office management component-- Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing timely processing of payroll, resolution of HR issues, and company vehicle maintenance. Operations Manager will need to supervise a Nairobi team. Operations Manager will be responsible for assisting in vetting, hiring, and training new local national staff for inclusion in the field teams as required.
Some assistance with business development, in cooperation with the Sales team, will also be required.
Required Experience: Candidate must have strong background in freight forwarding operations in adverse conditions, preferably Africa but Afghanistan, Iraq, or Central Asia acceptable as well. Candidate should also (preferably, but not required) have experience handling, packing, and shipping personal effects. Candidate should have experience managing and working with teams of local nationals, and office management in developing countries. Candidate must be comfortable traveling to and driving in developing countries and be familiar with the general process of obtaining overseas visas, driving licenses, and work permits.
