The CFO is responsible for making sure that a company is in compliance with state and federal regulations and that taxes and payroll are current, following all regulatory guidelines. While she may not create the documents, the CFO gives the final approval on all reporting documents, annual statements and analytical reports. Necessary insurance policies and business permits are typically procured through the office of the CFO. The CFO often is the person who answers media questions about financial issues and reports to government inquiries and stockholders meetings. Accounting department heads in a company report to the CFO, who oversees all divisions that deal with company assets and liabilities.
