DRTC Background
The recently opened regional technology centre in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Baker Hughes collaborates with customers as well as local universities to jointly develop technology for specific regional needs, with emphasis on unconventional resources.
Dhahran Techno Valley
Baker Hughes’ Dhahran Research and Technology Centre (DRTC) opened in November 2011 with the official opening scheduled the end of February 2012. The intention is for the facility to be operating at full capacity in 2013.
The facility is unique in Dhahran Techno Valley in that it is wholly dedicated to research.
Engineering and Geosciences Group at DRTC
Supports wellbore construction optimization including bits, fluids, BHA, dynamics, and stability. This group will also be involved in reservoir description, production optimization, reservoir stimulation and interpretation-based collaboration projects. This group will give an inside track on the customer needs in the region for new technology applications.
Education/Experience/Training:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 1-3 yrs experience; Master Degree and 0-1 yrs experience.
Skills/Knowledge:
Basic technical skills. Good problem solving skills with a drive for results. Good written and verbal skills. Ability to build peer relationships as well as work independently. Must be action oriented, ethical in value, and have a strong customer focus.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Works primarily in Mechanical engineering in product development, design, sustaining, or R&D. Assignments are outlined in terms of specific objectives. Assists in planning and conducting research, design and development of standard engineering assignments. Assignments will typically be a portion of larger project. Selects engineering techniques to solve problems and makes sound design recommendations. Assesses results for applicability, validity and conformance to specifications. Usually works with close supervision. Assignments are reviewed for overall soundness and adherence to stated objectives. Handles special projects, as assigned. Sphere of influence limited to immediate supervisor, work group, support organizations and vendors. Limited influence on product cost.
