Position: UK Trade & Investment Officer
Grade: Band 13
Location: Abu Dhabi
Reporting to: First Secretary (Defence & Security)
Contract: Permanent Full Time

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) at the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi invites applications for the position of Trade & Investment Officer, with a focus on the Defence & Security Sector.

Based in Abu Dhabi, the successful candidate will work closely with senior managers to help ensure that the UKTI team provide first class support to UK companies looking to trade in or with the UAE. The successful candidate will be line managed by the First Secretary (Defence & Security).

Specifically, the role requires support and the provision of information to allow companies to make an informed decision about whether the UAE is a suitable market for their equipment and/or services.

Main Duties:

• Carrying out market research on behalf of UK companies. This is a chargeable service and there is an overriding need for accuracy and meeting deadlines agreed with customers. The research will involve meeting companies on the ground in Abu Dhabi and promoting the customers' business. Part of this research will also include researching the press, websites and attending local exhibitions.

• Organising receptions and other events as required by customers to launch their products or offices in Abu Dhabi. This is another chargeable service and involves logistical arrangements and organising guest lists and locations, catering etc.

• Making arrangements for official visitors to Abu Dhabi. These can range from ministers, members of the Royal Family and senior officials. Arrangements usually involve a programme of appointments, social events and transport and can involve a significant amount of preparation (up to 6 weeks before the visit). Work on such visits usually requires working with local authorities and Government.

• Meeting visiting UK businesspeople and giving briefing on their particular industry sector of interest. This will include background on Abu Dhabi, advice on setting up business here, and sector-specific information.

• Participation in the arrangements for visiting UK trade missions including administrative arrangements and contributions to briefing packs, attendance at briefings and highlighting areas of opportunity in Abu Dhabi to members of the mission.

• Visiting local companies in Abu Dhabi to keep abreast of business opportunities and developing contacts

• Reacting to enquiries from local companies seeking information about potential contacts in the UK and posting business opportunities on the UKTI Website.

• On occasion, attending out of hours social networking functions.

• Recording all information gathered on our database and also on the UKTI worldwide Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database.

• To take part in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a Crisis affecting UK citizens.
