Job Description:
The Controller has a dual responsibility. Is responsible directly to the General Manager of the hotel in the administrative capacity of a department head, and is responsible directly to the Corporate Director of Finance in the functional capacity as the corporate office Finance & Accounting department's representative in the hotel.
The primary responsibilities of this position are:
• To setup and manage the hotel accounting department, information and internal control systems and hotel finances in accordance with budgetary guidelines, and the pre-opening critical path
• To provide accurate and complete financial and management reports on a timely basis to the hotel managerial personnel, Corporate Office and owners in accordance with the company and ownership reporting requirements and policy
• To protect the owners interest in the hotel assets and operations
Other essential responsibilities of this position are:
• Setup, establish and manage a fully operational Accounting department as a pillar of the hotel's operations, in coordination with the General Manager and the Corporate Office
• Ensure that the Finance team is organized to work effectively within the framework of rules and regulations of the hotel
• Responsible to the General Manager for all employees under his/her jurisdiction
• Involved in the overall operation of the hotel
• Responsible for the maintenance of a system of accounts and controls
• Provide and control an effective control of the assets of the hotel
• As a representative of the corporate office Finance & Accounting department he/she is responsible for controlling and reporting on the cash funds and all other assets of the hotel
• Responsible for the enforcement of all policies and procedures set out in the Company Finance and Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual
• Ensure all laws and fiscal regulations of the area of location which affect the financial matters of the hotel will be complied with, including proper permits and licenses for importation, currency transfers, liquor licenses, etc
• Approve all cash disbursements, ensuring that all disbursements are properly documented and executed
• Approve all rebates, adjustments or allowance in accordance with Company policy
• Ensure accurate documentation of value of inventories of food, beverage and operating supplies on hand; controlling distribution of materials and supplies to departments in response to requisitions and control of inventory levels
• The administration of, in conjunction with corporate office, the hotel's insurance program. Generally speaking, all blanket insurance policies will be administered from corporate office, while the Controller is charged with the responsibility for all local policies and any special insurance requirements for his specific hotel.
• Ensures the safekeeping of all leases and contracts and any other legal records and documents which may affect the financial status of the hotel
• Maintain a close liaison with the hotel's auditors, both external and internal, to ensure the objective verification of the hotel's financial affairs.
