Production Manager is an individual who plans coordinates, organizes and controls production in an organization. A production manager's main responsibilities are to ensure the efficient production of goods and services and are of the right quantity, quality and cost. In addition to this, it is the manager's responsibility to produce goods on time and at the right price to meet the demands of the customer. The duties and responsibilities of the job vary depending on the kind of production system, like jobbing production, process production, batch production or mass production.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Overseeing the production process, drawing up a production schedule;
• Ensuring that the production is cost effective;
• Making sure that products are produced on time and are of good quality;
• Working out the human and material resources needed;
• Drafting a timescale for the job;
• Estimating costs and setting the quality standards;
• Monitoring the production processes and adjusting schedules as needed;
• Being responsible for the selection and maintenance of equipments;
• Monitoring product standards and implementing quality-control programmes;
• Liaising among different departments, e.g. suppliers, managers;
• Working with managers to implement the companies' policies and goals;
• Ensuring that health and safety guidelines are followed;
• Supervising and motivating a team of workers;
• Reviewing the performance of subordinates;
• Identifying training needs.
