BASIC FUNCTION
To provide technical support to the power plant and the associated utilities and Rankin cycle (Power Block) to ensure plants are enabled to generate the targeted electricity within the defined quality, safety and cost parameters over long-term period, meeting internal and external commitments and to ensure opportunities are identified and developed for the continuous improvement of the facility and its capabilities.
WORK PERFORMED
Directs technical support to the day to day operations of the plant and associated facilities by collecting and reviewing daily production and efficiency data and advising on changes to operating conditions/parameters to meet production plans and targets at optimum operating costs.
Performs the guidelines provided by the technology supplier and parent company/industry best practices, contribute to the establishment, review and updating operating policies and procedures for the units which ensure safe, beneficial and cost effective operations at all times and the long term optimization of the facility.
Manage the provision of an advanced troubleshooting service on plant operating problems.
Collaborate with the Technical and Maintenance functions, parent company advisors, the technology supplier and other contractors/consultants as appropriate to review and optimize plant operation and manage the development and approval of projects for beneficial modifications or expansions to the units, with a particular emphasis on process control systems development.
Contribute to the scoping and scheduling of regular, planned, statutory and unplanned/ emergency maintenance to ensure this is carried out in the most efficiencyt and safe manner and that downtime due to maintenance work is minimized.
Contribute to the establishment of appropriate procedures to ensure safe, hazard-free working at all times and compliance with company and statutory environmental policies. Ensure that the work of the section complies with relevant safety and that reporting staff are conversant with and trained in appropriate safety procedures and emergency drills.
Administrate the development and delivery of appropriate training plans and programs to develop the necessary skills base across the Unit and facilitate each member of Technical Support staff maximizing their potential and contribution to the business.
Prepare the Unit and department budget and monitor performance of the sections activities against to approved budget to control cost and ensure expenditure is maintained in line the company business plan.
Prepare regular and ad hoc management information reports and analyze required to keep management informed of the performance of the plant and of the technical support department.
Directs recruitment and motivate and develop the staff in the Technical Support department to ensure development of the necessary skills base and that all staff is enabling to reach their highest potential and maximize their contribution to the business.
Deputies The Plant Manager or other Department's managers as required.
