Major function and overall purpose of the position:
This is an opportunity for an experienced chemical engineer (+5 years) to integrate into the Dubai plant in the DOW Coatings Materials division in Europe (EMEA Region) and to drive major process improvement activities.
The position includes driving improvements for the manufacturing aspects: safety, environment, quality and productivity. The position offers to allow in an individual to be very active in a complex environment, whilst supported by Dow Functional and Business processes.
After several successful years in this position, the next natural step might be to move to plant leadership positions or to the regional improvement team.
Major Job Responsibilities:
The improvement engineer leads the plant level improvement process by gathering and analyzing data, evaluating improvement opportunities, and implementing improvement projects.
The improvement engineer assures plant level improvements align with the Plant Specific Technology Plan, thereby closing local performance gaps and increasing Asset Capability (AC). The improvement engineer provides plant level improvement project support, which may include fulfilling roles in the global project execution work process (ex. Global Project Methodology (GPM), Six Sigma, etc.).
Assisting the Improvement Leader in identifying key measures using plant performance data analysis
Partnering with plant operation personnel to secure process data for identification of technology gaps, improvement opportunities, and project definitions
Coaching plant personnel on measurements and daily updates of technology performance/ asset utilization data
Identifying plant improvements that are aligned to the Global and Plant Specific Technology Plan objectives
Championing Plant Improvement Team and assures proper set-up and use of global opportunity identification tools (Opportunity Tracking System, Idea Tracker, etc.)
Validating improvement opportunities using global tools and assists in building the Plant Specific Technology Plan
Assisting the Improvement Leader to ensure implementation of Business-supported projects as identified in the Plant Specific Technology Plan
Assisting the Improvement Leader in collection and analysis of improvement project results data
Providing technical plant support in specialized areas including process simulation, modeling, risk analysis, and process optimization
Assisting in managing Asset Utilization and project budgets
Providing data to validate that projects deliver performance objectives after implementation
Supporting the plant operations with DCS Process Control support in terms of modifications, recipe writing and troubleshooting
Managing SIS health, reporting and functionality
Education and Experience Requirements:
University degree in a technical/chemical field.
+ 5 years experience in a process oriented manufacturing environment
Field knowledge of polymerisation related technologies would be appreciated
DCS experience in recipe / batch driven plant strong advantage
Essential Languages:
Fluency in English, further languages would be appreciated

Chemical engineering background knowledge
Good analytical skills, technical competency, knowledge of basic statistical tools.
Strong inter personal and communication skills
